Treasure Basket
Age group: Birth - 2 years
Before you begin this activity you will need to collect the resources and place it in a treasure basket.
Resource/Materials:
· Treasure basket
· Shells
· Pebbles
· Pinecones
· Leaves
· Bark
Process:
1. After collecting all the resources for your treasure basket, place it in an easily accessible area for all the children to get to, outside.
2. Take children outside, to interact with the nature
3. While this is happening draw their attention to the basket or let them find it on their own
4. While the children are exploring through the basket, speak with them about the objects found in the basket
5. Allow them to feel the different shapes and textures of the objects while stating what it is
6. Slowly work up to asking them to point out certain objects found in the basket
Outcomes EYLF:
Outcome 2- Children are connected with and contribute to their own world.
· Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation
· Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment
Outcome 4- Children are confident and involved learners
· Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination, and reflexivity
· Children resource their own learning through connecting with people, place, technologies and natural and processed materials
